The Response of Auroral-Oval Waves to CIR-Driven Recurrent Storms: FY-3E/ACMag Observations

چکیده
Alfven-branch waves provide an efficient means for transporting energy into the auroral oval. Here, we report observations of these obtained by Fengyun-3E (FY-3E)/ACMag instruments, which are designed to detect three-dimensional AC magnetic fields in 0.05–25 Hz band. The suggest that broadband a permanent feature oval, although their amplitude and locations vary with global state magnetosphere. We primarily focus on data from 10 July 2021 26 August 2021, during series recurrent storms driven solar wind corotating interaction regions (CIRs) occurred. Analysis shows auroral-oval grow (1–3 orders magnitude) shift lower latitude (∼10°) immediately following decrease SYM-H index each storm. Further investigation reveals response has time scale equal or less than FY-3E’s effective revisiting time, is about 45 min. presented this paper confirm FY-3E/ACMag instruments high-resolution monitor could further our understanding physics.

Geomagnetic storms driven by ICME- and CIR-dominated solar wind
[1] The interaction of the solar wind and the Earth’s magnetosphere is complex and the phenomenology of the interaction is very different for solar wind dominated by interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) compared to solar wind dominated by corotating interaction regions (CIRs). We perform a superposed epoch study of the effects of ICMEand CIR-dominated solar wind upon the storm-time pla...
متن کاملGround-based and satellite observations of high-latitude auroral activity in the dusk sector of the auroral oval
On 7 December 2000, during 13:30–15:30 UT the MIRACLE all-sky camera at Ny Ålesund observed auroras at high-latitudes (MLAT ∼ 76) simultaneously when the Cluster spacecraft were skimming the magnetopause in the same MLT sector (at ∼ 16:00–18:00 MLT). The location of the auroras (near the ionospheric convection reversal boundary) and the clear correlation between their dynamics and IMF variation...
متن کاملPs 6 disturbances: relation to substorms and the auroral oval
Ps 6 disturbances and associated omega bands are often considered to be part of the phenomenology of the recovery phase of substorms. We note cases of the initiation of Ps 6 activity at or very near the time of onset, either of a substorm expansive phase, a pseudobreakup, or a poleward border intensification. Thus, we claim that Ps 6 disturbances need not be viewed primarily as phenomena of the...
متن کاملThe size of the auroral belt during magnetic storms
Using the auroral boundary index derived from DMSP electron precipitation data and the Dst index, changes in the size of the auroral belt during magnetic storms are studied. It is found that the equatorward boundary of the belt at midnight expands equatorward, reaching its lowest latitude about one hour before Dst peaks. This time lag depends very little on storm intensity. It is also shown tha...
متن کاملIdentification of possible intense historical geomagnetic storms using combined sunspot and auroral observations from East Asia
Comprehensive catalogues of ancient sunspot and auroral observations from East Asia are used to identify possible intense historical geomagnetic storms in the interval 210 BC–AD 1918. There are about 270 entries in the sunspot catalogue and about 1150 entries in the auroral catalogue. Special databases have been constructed in which the scientific information in these two catalogues is placed i...
